Capitalization Question

I'm having a brain lock, and I can't seem to find the answer.

When writing "Ladies' room," is the L capitalized?

Would it be "ladies' room"

Or "Ladies' room"?

Since it's a euphemism, I believe it is not capitalized.

I'd say that if it's a common noun it should be lowercase ("she went to the ladies' room") but if it's being used as a name or nickname it would be capitalized ("she went to the Ladies' ").

Oh, thanks, David.

I did go with, "As she walked out of the ladies' room . . . "

What a thing to stop and dwell upon (smiles).

ladies' room.

Unless, of course, you are referring to Lady as in Lady and the Tramp. Then it's Lady's Room.

It's not a unique entity (ie, a proper noun) so no caps.

In the construction field.

In the construction field the typical spelling is "LADIES" all capitalized. I imagine the same is true for "WOMEN" rooms. Funny that the first almost implies ownership while the second seems like more of a filter.

Now my brain hurts.
